Buzzing Ear: Causes and Relief

Tinnitus is known as the condition where a person experiences a buzzing ear or hears noises within his ear/s without receiving any kind of sound waves from the outside environment. The noise is usually high pitched and can be of any kind such as buzzing, blowing sizzling, humming, ringing, roaring, hissing or whistling.

Buzzing ear is usually due to exposure to very loud noises. This may cause damage to the ear which may then cause a long lasting hearing effect. Other causes of buzzing ear or tinnitus may also include too much wax in the ear (clogged ringing ears), nose allergies, ear infection and a presence of foreign objects inside the ear. Tinnitus may also be the result of old age. During the process of aging, the hearing ability is usually impaired and this may cause buzzing sounds on the ear. On the other hand, tinnitus may also be due to the side effects of various medications or it may also be due to a genetic hearing loss. Buzzing sounds may also be due to several complications or an underlying medical condition which is why it is essential to check with a physician for further testing.

When you are suffering from a condition such as buzzing ear or tinnitus, you may experience feeling dizzy as well. This is due to the fact that your vestibular labyrinth is malfunctioning. This part of the ear is composed of small canals which contain fluids and sensors. These sensors monitor the rotation movement of your head. Saccule and utricle are parts of the inner ear and contains otoconia which are connected to the sensors and helps monitor the back and forth motion of the human body. If any of these parts are damaged, even if the damage is mild, this will cause dizziness and buzzing ears.

There are various remedies available that can provide relief to those suffering from buzzing ear or tinnitus and most of these remedies can be done at home and are natural. Examples of these home remedies are as follows:

  • Put a maidenhair tree extract into your ears. This is one of the most commonly used herbal remedies (herbs for tinnitus) when it comes to buzzing ears or tinnitus. Make sure to use not more than 20 to 30 mg.
  • Make sure to maintain a regular diet. Your diet should be composed of vegetables and fruits, and should include garlic and kelp as well. Foods with high amounts of vitamins A, B and E (tinnitus vitamins) should be included as well.
  • Make sure to wear earplugs, especially if you are often exposed to loud music (ringing ears after a concert) or noise.
  • Avoid salty, sugary and fatty foods, as well as processed foods and foods that contain too much saturated fat.
  • Avoid consuming too much coffee, tea, sweet foods and alcohol as this may aggravate your tinnitus problem.
  • Take hot and cold foot baths alternatively to effectively tackle tinnitus.

Visit your physician or an ENT to have your ears tested and know the cause of your buzzing ear or tinnitus. This can also help you find a more effective way of getting rid or getting relief from tinnitus.
