Ear Ringing Causes
Sudden ringing in one or both ears is often referred to as tinnitus. The sound that can be heard can be a consistent soft hissing to loud whistling in one or both ears.
There are many ear ringing causes such as an ear disorder or an underlying medical condition. In some cases, ringing ears are not permanent and may only last for several minutes to several days. This may only be due to too much ear wax build up or dirt which is trapped in the ear canal. But in some cases, the ear ringing cause may not be known unless you consult a physician and undergo some testing.
There are cases when the prescribed over-the-counter medicine is the ear ringing cause. You should know that there are certain drugs that may cause tinnitus, especially when taken in high doses. These medicines may include naproxen, aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, ibuprofen, glycoside antibiotics and oral contraceptives. When you stop taking any of these medicines, you might notice that the ringing in your ears is gone. There are some drugs, such as ototoxic antibiotics, which are given as medications for ear problems but may only contribute to the tinnitus problem. This is why it is advised to ask your physician to prescribe a medication which is not ototoxic. If in case the above-mentioned drugs are required to be taken, ask your physician if you can lower the dose of these medicines to lessen the ear ringing episodes.
Ear ringing causes often include ear infections and sudden automobile accidents. Most cases of automobile crash ends up with victims who are being reported to be hearing ringing sounds in their ears right after experiencing a traumatic head or neck injury. Sometimes, dental procedures may cause sudden ringing in the ears, especially when the patient has undergone ultrasonic cleaning or difficult tooth extraction. These procedures usually create a loud noise near the ear and you may hear it in your ear after a few minutes when the procedure is done. To be able to protect your ears, especially when you are often exposed to loud scanning machines such as the CT scan or MRI, you may use a protective gear to prevent your ear from ringing. If you are already hearing a buzzing or whistling noise in your ear, you may avoid acquiring any further damage by staying away from the source of the noise.
Sudden noises that you might be hearing in your ear may be normal when you are exposed to very loud noises, such as when attending concerts. But if you are often exposed to these loud noises, make sure to do something to protect your ear and to prevent damaging your inner ear. For those who are suffering from tinnitus and do not have any idea on what their ear ringing cause is, it is best to check with their physician in order to obtain the right treatment or remedy. They might also want to check on their lifestyle such as eating habits and sleeping habits as these can also be considered as ear ringing causes.
